About Mark E. Johnson
Mark E. Johnson has been a writer in some capacity since he began penning poetry as a six-year-old. In the ensuing years, he has worked as a road musician and Nashville songwriter; a journalist/editor in the fields of agriculture, rural living, and wildlife conservation; a freelance writer for various magazines; and a humorist/blogger. Given this white-bread, run-of-the-mill career trajectory, it was only natural that he would launch a Nepal trekking company in 2017 from his home base of Middle Tennessee.
Mark also owns a small marketing company called Big Harvest Creative Group and works with a group of creative services pros. The company does web development, writing, videography, and graphic design.
As a writer, Mark has published hundreds of stories either as a freelancer or staffer. One of his Crossfit blog posts became viral in 2014 and has been read worldwide. As a musician, he wrote music for MCA Music Publishing/The Crosswind Corp. in Nashville for six years and released two CDs of original music, including 1997’s Tallman.
Mark lives in Kingston Springs, Tennessee, with his wife, Holly, their three kids — Sam, Ava, and Pete — and two cats, CeCe and Greta.
About the book
BLURB: Dave Barry meets Jack London. Growing up a North Carolina farm boy, Mark Johnson had never been out of the U.S., let alone to the mysterious continent of Asia, when he launched a Nepal trekking company after meeting a Sherpa in Nashville, Tennessee. Follow along as Mark (known to his kids as “Doofus Dad”) and his group of fourteen trekkers makes their inaugural assault on this ultimate Bucket List adventure, from 23 hours of hilarious air travel through the epic, two-week journey along the Dudh Kosi River to the foot of the world’s tallest mountain.
OBJECTIVE: Mark E. Johnson wrote Doofus Dad Does Everest Base Camp to serve as both an entertaining adventure story and a resource for individuals who are considering the EBC trek for themselves. It is also meant to inspire “normal” people to strive for extraordinary things and step outside of their comfort zone.
PREQUEL/COMPANION: Johnson’s Dec. 2019 release, “Blow the Man Down,” covers his years in the music business working as a Nashville songwriter and a club performer in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
